Despite my griping about missing features on the pre-alpha site
I feel that Bob deserves a big thumbs up for what he’s done with his Ruby on Rails blog engine Jibber. It’s never easy bootstrapping yourself up in a new language especially when you have to do it without the help of others (Sure he read books, but neither Marcus or I could help him and we obviously count more :P).
Jibber is shaping up to become usable product.
Well done Bob!

I’ve injured my AC joint again, probably a grade one tear.
Read more about the pain here.

Over on Bob Nation Bob has asked a question, what are your “developer tools?” rather than simply answering over on his blog I thought I would write out a fuller reply here and put it out to everyone.
As you may or may not be aware I’ve been dabbling with various other languages this past year I’ve spent time developing with the .Net Framework (C# rules!), Java Server Pages, Ruby and Perl. Thats on top of my normal work with PHP (I’m still sort of maintaining TFMS) and my dabbling with earlier versions of Zend Framework.
Now though I’ve settled on a specific language I wish to pursue and that is PHP, along with the Zend Framework I feel its the best fit to what I’m trying to accomplish. I don’t want to get in to any X is better than Y debates on programming languages though as I’m a firm believer in people using what they are comfortable with. Trying to force a square peg in to a round hole doesn’t work - so we shouldn’t be forcing people to use languages they don’t like.
Now, on to the dicussions about my developer tools. I work multiplatform on Windows XP and Mac OSx Leopard machines so I prefer having tools I can run on both.
Text Editors
My main text editor is Zend Studio, so far I’ve only been able to afford the cheaper version - sadly my finances won’t stretch as far as the 300 / 400 euro’s I need to purchase the all singing all dancing version. Zend Studio runs under Leopard and XP so that covers my cross browser needs.
My backup editor on Windows is Edit Pad Pro, an editor I found a few years ago but only got around to purchasing last year.
On Leopard my backup editor is the ever amazing TextMate.
Servers
On Windows I run WampServer for my server needs, it provides a nice set of controls for managing the sites hosted on my Windows machines.
Under OSx I run MAMP Pro - one of the better purchases I made as it makes setting up sites on the server simple.

I’m annoyed, my tired got a puncture on the way to work today - thankfully it did it when I had barely a mile to ride so the walk wasn’t too bad.
One thing I am annoyed about is the Slime Tube I had installed on the bike, it was absolutely useless when it came to fixing the problem with the tire. I’ve had to fix the tire the ‘old fashioned’ way.
Why doesn’t technology work?!

Well folks after a long time I finally manged to get my arse in to gear to cycle to work, sitting here in the office I’m now really glad I did. I’m no where near as dead as I feared I’d be, infact despite a few aches and pains I’m not doing too badly.
There are a few things I’ve realised though
- I’m not as unfit as I once thought
- My limbs aren’t hurting enough yet - I must ride more.
- My bike needs better care and attention
- I need cleated shoes
- Those who drive on the roads in Berkshire are by an large a word that rhymes with bankers
- 7.56 miles in 58.26 minutes is not bad for my first time out
- 115.6 calories burned!
